Weekend in Review – Teacher Appreciation Stuff

Life has been a bit of a blur, cookie orders, work stress and wedding planning have had me super caught up. I’ve even been missing from the gym, tsk tsk. I have a wedding I need to look amazing for!

I started off last weekend pretty well though; on the couch watching Star Wars movies all day. Yep nerd alert, I’m obsessed. And May 4 is Star Wars Day and TBS treated your girl with her fav movies all day long.

Actually I stepped out for a minute to deliver Teacher’s Appreciation cookies to some customers. I even put on my fancy new chef coat. I felt super legit wearing it, and now need to task someone with embroidering my name on that bad boy. Or my logo. Or maybe just my name, since I’m still undecided about rebranding.

I waited at Starbucks in between and treated myself to a Triple Mocha Frappe, wowwmagawd that thing was soooo good. I know it probably had mad calories in it, but man it was worth it.

For the teachers in my life, I spent the weekend getting a little crafty to thank them. Work station was looking like a tornado went off, but when I’m in creative mode that doesn’t always align with clean mode. It’s the only downside to the creative fun; the whirlwind of stuff after.

Check out these super cute mini cookies I made!

Sunday mini and I made a point to go have lunch together, (like she had a choice). Can you guess which one was mine? Also I got the side salad to make it seem healthy, but the dressing was just not doing it for me. I ate as much of it as i could (half) and disposed of the rest unhappily. I hate wasting food like that, but the dressing was such a buzzkill and was irking my tastebuds. I did get lots of healthy veggies on my pizza though! And I only ate half for lunch, I saved the rest for dinner.

First Baby-Free Weekend in almost 5 years

Holy guacamole, I can’t believe we’ve never had a real weekend away from babygirl in almost 5 years!

I’m not saying I’m trying to shirk my parenting responsibilities or anything cause I loveeee my princess, but a girl needs a break every now and then. I also think it’s super important for parents to remember who they were together before they became Mom & Dad.

It’s actually by way of an interesting turn of events that we scored our free weekend, and it happened to fall on my off Friday. JACKPOT.

We slept in Friday morning and I caught up on a few hours of work before heading out to get fresh hair cuts and eat some delicious food at this new healthy eating spot called Fresh Kitchen.

After that, we finally got to see Black Panther.

I felt like we were the last ones to see it, and have been avoiding all articles, comments and discussion about the movie because I didn’t want to be tainted before watching it.

Movie was great.

Saturday we spent most of the day at our marriage class, the real reason we got a kid free few days.

I thought the class was great; we talked about communication, finances, conflict resolution, personality types, parenting styles and natural family planning to name a few. Honestly probably every engaged couple should have to take something like that, get you to think about the bigger picture and are you guys on the same page.

Later we met up for drinks with D’s cousin.

We basically stayed out all of Saturday.

Sunday was for church, house cleaning, at-home movie watching and me practicing my calligraphy.

Though we missed her a lot and felt weird doing things without her, I think in the future we will need to look at planning more kid free weekends so baby girl can spend time with her family, and we can spend time as a couple. It was nice to just get up and go and do whatever we wanted with our staycation. And I know babygirl had a grand time getting spoiled this weekend as well. She didn’t even want to come home. 🙂

Weekend in Review- soccer & nibs

Weekend started with some Saturday soccer, our new normal.

Babygirl did sooo good. As a thoughtful loving little person, she has struggled a little bit with the aggressiveness that soccer requires. She sees the kids she plays with, as teammates and friends. That’s a great thing! I love that she understands teamwork and sharing, but when it comes down to playing against each other we needed her to just get out there and fight for the ball.

And this Saturday she did! She jumped in the thick of it all, and kicked the ball out and really showed the progress in her ball handling skills. I was super impressed! And she was happy to receive all the praise I was giving.

I made sure to get some arts and crafts time with her in so we could do an activity together.

She’s been obsessed with painting lately because she has been gifted lots of art supplies, so we painted this bird house.

Also at Hobby Lobby , i was able to pick up some ink and bibs… because I’m taking calligraphy up.

What’s that? I’m crazy you say? When do you even have the time to play with calligraphy pens???

Yes I know. But hear me out, I love doodling and writing. I’ve got pens and markers and brushes galore. I love the feel of pen on paper and making the words attractive to look at. And I can’t just have baking as a hobby, because let’s be honest I can’t eat all my kitchen creations. Especially when my wedding is on the horizon. So in an effort to ease my restless soul/hands I’ve decided to delve into the world of artistic lettering.

How cool would it be to do fancy wedding envelopes for people? Or do those gorgeous wedding signs that are becoming so popular? I know that’s super forward thinking of me, to already be crafting another business venture but clearly when I do something I just jump all the way in.

I started an Instagram for it in case you wanted to check out my newest non edible art.

Convos with a toddler – Pt 8

Can we all agree that a nighttime shower is magical? You let the day stresses melt away as the hot water pours over you. You wash away the dirt and sweat with sweet smelling body wash and scrub your skin fresh again.

Personally I’ve been favoring Dove Body Wash, it’s moisturizing (which helps fight the hard water coming out the tap) and the coconut orchid scent is pretty decent. I try to catch them when they’re on sale or thru BJ’s with a coupon, cause savings duh.

After being freshly showered, baby girl leaned over, inhaled deeply and said:

“mommy you smell like donuts” and giggled.

Well, I guess that’s not a bad thing right?

Honest Opinions Needed

So I need a bit of help, like some suggestions or opinions, whatever you’ve got.

A few years ago, I started a baking business, as you may know. It makes me heart so happy to bake beautiful delicious things, and put smiles on people’s faces and see them stuff their faces with my gourmet cupcakes, and beautiful cookies.

When I first started my biz, I needed a name, every business has one, its their identity, how people remember them, how they refer you to other new potential clients. I came up with Bee’s Baked Yummies. I’m a sucker for alliteration.

I wasn’t completely sold but it was mine and I grew to love it for that reason.

In the few years that have passed, I have been completely ignorant to the way to be an entrepreneur in this social media age. I had that “if you build it, they will come” type of mentality. Yeah, bull$#it. That is so not true. If you build it, they don’t know it’s there, so you gotta do work. You gotta put elbow grease in it, and understand the system and learn how to get out there to your customers.

I was ignorant to how to portray my edible art, and create a cohesive look and feel for my social media pages.

But that was then. I’ve been taking a baking business course that has helped me TREMENDOUSLY, like completely opened my eyes and made me see the light. I will forever be grateful to my course leaders for the knowledge they’ve bestowed on us, and everyday have been trying to make my business better, to be a successful entrepreneur.

In this new era of my business, I’ve been trying to address my branding. My colors and look and feel of my site, and my name.

Bee’s Baked Yummies, what does that make you think of? I originally had a bee in my logo, but it’s long been gone, and sometimes I feel as if the name doesn’t quite roll off the tongue.

I’ve been thinking about “Stargazer Sweets.”

How do you feel about that?

A few people were quite against it, which honestly surprised me. I thought it sounds so much smoother, I have the chance to reinvent myself, why are they so adamant I don’t change my name?

I think because of familiarity, we as people like what we know. It’s is familiar, it is comfortable. “Change can be scary, because it’s different and new.” They feel that “Bee” is me, and they picture that when they hear my old name.

But actually I am also the “stargazer” from “stargazer sweets.”

I am probably the biggest nerd you didn’t know that you knew. I loveee sci-fi/fantasy books, I adore Star Wars movies, and science and space and stars and magic and the list goes on.

I remember as a child, I begged my parents to get me a telescope, I had them wake me up at 3 am so we could watch the meteor showers at night, and look at the craters on the moon. I actually created a character on the inside of my backpack in the 7th grade, she was this dazzling brave heroine, “The Starry Knight.” So you see, I’m not losing myself from my business identity, I’m just polishing it off and showing you a new side of me.

What do you think of my potential change from Bee’s Baked Yummies to stargazer sweets?

My baby is a BIG girl

Y’all.

I got my baby’s spring pictures back yesterday.

In the envelope were her graduation pictures. Picture this precious princess in a graduation gown with a grad cap holding paper rolled up as a diploma with a pretty satin ribbon.

Insert picture of me sobbing hysterically about time passing by too fast here.

She hasn’t officially graduated Pre-K yet, (if I’m this emotional now, what will I be like for high school graduation??) but the pictures are beautiful and an accurate representation of where we are at none the less. I’ve got like 2 months to prep my purse with soft tissues and baby pictures galore. I know I won’t be the only one who can’t contain themselves as she walks across the stage: her Papi will be there too.

Anyway, we’ve got her in soccer now and I’m absolutely elated. I love bringing our club chair out to the field and whipping my camera out to catch action shots of the kids learning the basics.

Watching the kids out there soaking up the skills knowledge is amazing.

I’m literally watching little people, taking instructions and applying them as they go. Also I love when they divide up and play against each other. Both the most adorable and most frustrating thing ever! So adorable as they try to learn how to move the ball where they want, and frustrating because they don’t understand team work or how to play the field to their advantage. Can you tell I’m one of those moms screaming for my baby to go for the goal?

Either way, my baby is growing up and I’m sure blessed to watch her do it.

Weekend in Review – Lazy Days

This weekend I had an off Friday

Got some gym time in and let me tell you the secret to cardio: is to do it with a friend. So much easier to barrel thru 30 minutes on the treadmill when someone you know is suffering with you and you catch up on “the tea” in between taking breaths and sipping water.

D and I also took a random trip out to some new construction homes to window-shop for houses that we can’t quite afford. We saw a beautiful 5 bedroom house that had this amazing loft space, I could imagine putting a projector in there and having a snack wall and popcorn maker. It had 2 masters and an amazing pantry and kitchen, the only downside was the laundry room was downstairs. I don’t know how I’ve lucked up to have always had my laundry be on the same floor as my bedroom, and I don’t have plans in the future to change that.

Saturday we took a drive to a car show. It wasn’t very big, but the weather was gorgeous and mini liked checking out all the old cars. Some allowed us to sit in there and snap a pic, and it was just nice to get out of the house and do something different. Now that she’s getting older I love that we can do fun random outings with her.

Sunday was a home day. We lounged on the couch, painted our toes, played Jenga, and I worked on some baking orders for the week.

Hope you all have a lovely week!

Blogging update

My posts have been few and far between these past few months. I’ll be energized and charged about writing and sit and have nothing to say because I’m thinking about dinner, coloring with mini, or folding laundry. I haven’t been making it a priority to blog because I’m busy baking, cleaning the house or sitting on the couch for some downtime.

I haven’t taken the time to just sit down and write for myself. So for that I apologize. To me. And to you, my readers.

During a meeting at work recently, we had an icebreaker question to warm up the room a little. It was “when you were a child what did you want to grow up and be?” Someone said dinosaur (lol), someone said polictian (whoa), and I said writer.

It’s true. As a child I wrote short stories and loved reading fiction (lots of sci-fi and magic!) and as an adult I still do love those things. But I’ve noticed that I haven’t allowed myself much time for those things. And I’m going to change that (for real this time). I’ll continue with my mom posts, and incorporate more food posts (because I love food) and maybe include my baking projects too. I’m putting this out there for me, to hold myself accountable to sticking to what I said I’d do. It’s important for me to continue my creative writing and maybe I’ll incorporate some of my hand letting/sketches that Ive got tucked away. I told D this year, I wouldn’t hide my nerd side (all the Star Wars movies please) but I think this year will be the one where i open up more too, get back to the artsy things that run thru my brain all day and keep me motivated to continue to create.
