23 weeks

so in a week i will be 6 months. [opens eyes wide] they say senior year goes so quickly, graduation in 65 days not that i’m counting, so maybe its that but i feel like this pregnancy is flying by as well. i feel like just yesterday we were making the calls to notify family & friends. any who i’ve still been nesting and wanting to bake and cook and organize. and sleep. i miss sleep. sleeping while pregnant is not what i thought it would be. i had this strange misconception that i would try to get in as much sleep now because once shes here i’ll never sleep the same again but honestly its hard. the first trimester all i wanted to do was lay in bed and i slept but lately i can’t get comfortable or stay asleep. sometimes i’ll wake up to pee, or i’ll wake up cause i’m hot and uncomfortable or i just can’t sleep in anymore. sighhhh. but my little bump is growing and so is my appetite lol.

according to my app: she is now more than 11 inches long and weighs more than a lb. she can also feel me dance [lol i guess she can feel me walk too then? (it says her sense of movement is well developed now)] the blood vessels in her lungs are developing to prepare for her breathing and her hearing is becoming more keen [her cochlea which is the inner ear mechanism has fully formed- this houses all components of hearing] so she hears what i hear 😀 but at a different level cause she also hears my muscles, tissues, placenta and amniotic fluid. bit noisy i guess. and it says i can look forward to the possible swelling of my feet and ankles. [oh joy.]

How Far Along? 23 weeks

how big is baby: around 11 inches and weighs more than a lb (weight of a large mango)

Symptoms: fatigue, nesting, back aches, all the time hunger, forgetfulness..

Total Weight Gain/Loss: i really need to find a more accessible scale.

maternity clothes? yeap, ill be needing larger shirts soon too.

Sleep: i have trouble sleeping in even when i’m really tired. sleeping on my left side is the most comfortable for long periods but occasionally i’ll switch. i have lots of vivid dreams too. if i can work it in, i’ll try to nap during the day but it doesn’t always work out :/

stretch marks? nothing new

Food Cravings: sweet things mostly, but lately ive been wanting fruit and water. and caprese salad (idk why lol)

Best Moment This Week: dreaming about her pretty little face

Movement: she moves still but i feel like not as much as before, probably cause she’s getting bigger and has less space to move around. i try to pull my shirt up and see if i can see her moving but she always stops when i’m watching its like she’s shy 🙂 cause as soon as i stop looking she’ll move again. its like she’s playing peek a boo with me !

Labor Signs: no

Gender: its a girl

Belly Button In Or Out? i think i will no longer have an innie by the end of the week. i swear it gets smaller by the day.

What I Miss: sleeping in! and sleeping peacefully! and being able to bend down and pick things up easily.

What I Am Looking Forward To: planning for her shower, finding a new place and being done with undergrad

Milestones: realizing i will no longer be a part of the innie club very soon, realizing im almost at the 6 month mark which means hellllooo home stretch aka third trimester

Weekly Wisdom: umm i feel like maybe i had some but i’ve been a little forgetful lol

DIY Sugar Scrub Fail :(

so on the quest for bath time goodies that make your skin feel super smooth i found a recipe for a sugar scrub. i love scrubs of any kind and i used to make one with oatmeal and brown sugar which i should probably revisit soon…

but this recipe i found seemed simple and quick and i was willing to try as i had everything already. this is what is asked for:

Almond Oil or Coconut Oil (or oil of your choice)

White Granulated Sugar

Shredded Bar of Soap – so it cleans too!

An Essential Oil – to make it smell pretty

Mixing Bowl & Spoon & Microwave or double boiler

A mold or a scoop – mold in case you want to make little cubes or little shapes of the scrub

[and following the recipe made me remember why i really hate following recipes but hey you live and learn]

it called out these specific amounts which i adhered to:

1/4 cup Almond Oil

1/2 cup Shredded Soap- i used the pink dove bar

3-4 drops of Essential Oil- i used a sweet orange one

1 cup Sugar

 basically you combine the almond oil and shredded soap together and microwave it in 10 sec intervals, mixing in between to get it melted down.  (if that doesn’t work for you they suggest using a double boiler) and then you add the essential oil to your liquid soapy mixture. once you add the soapy mix to the sugar it all hardens out pretty quick, it kind of reminded me of dropping water into wet sand at the beach, so i did this part pretty slowly and mixed it together as i was pouring. well the soapy mix wasn’t really enough to combine with the sugar so my scrub didn’t quite have the consistency i would have liked but the deed was done.

if i decide to try this out again i would def use more almond oil, which makes your skin feel amazing by the way, or adding more shredded soap or using less sugar. maybe if i used a different bar of soap it would have come out different? i used dove soap and i believe they say its 1/4 moisturizer and made that had some effect on it?? idk..

i’ll use the scrub til its done but i wasn’t really happy with it. you can’t win them all i guess…

Muffin tin meatloaf

So today was my run errands day, and tomorrow will be too. i did some more organizing/cleaning of things in the house [nesting still in effect] and took care of a couple things i had been meaning to do. i wanted to try something different for dinner today and i remembered i had some ground beef ive been meaning to use…

now ive never actually made meatloaf probably because i generally use the oven just for baking but i have been trying to perfect my oven-for-cooking-skills before Bri gets here because popping something in the oven is less time consuming. and less stressful then having to watch her and watch the food cooking on the stove. maybe i should look into a slow cooker? i heard the ninja pot is pretty cool too.

anyways like most of my other doings, this meatloaf was pinterest inspired. ran across a site that said to cook it in a muffin tin. of course! this drastically cuts the cook time, which is perfect cause my little bump keeps me hungry most of the time. and it makes the meat loaf look a lot prettier, not that it really matters what it looks like cause its all going in my belly anyway, but i thought they were cuter. instead of doing a whole meat loaf in a bread pan for an hour i cooked my little patties in my muffin pan for 20 mins. these little versions also make a great option for freezing extras for later use.

i didn’t actually know what should go in it and i didnt get to go to the grocery store so i threw some seasoning, minced garlic, an egg, and some crushed up saltine crackers [from my nauseas days !!]. they came out moist and delicious, and even my vegetarian room mate said they smelled good 🙂 .

[in case you were wondering i also made some roasted potatoes which i cooked in some of the empty muffin spots and some broccoli & cheese.]

DIY Shaving Cream & Chocolate Milk

no i did not put those things together in real life, just the title for this post.

i wasn’t really on a hunt for shaving cream but while i was perusing pinterest i happened to come across a recipe for a DIY one. i used to buy it a long time ago and if its ever on sale i would get some but as i can recall its normally like $4-5 for a bottle that doesn’t last me long at all and its not something that i really need so why buy it. but i was interested to try making my own

DIY Shaving Cream

the site i found [http://www.diyandcrafttutorials.com/diy-shaving-lotion/]  called for a mix of :

1 cup shampoo

1 cup conditioner

5 TBSP baby oil

5 TBSP lotion

ive seen other sites that recommend using conditioner as a shaving cream and i happened to have a bottle of  old shampoo and conditioner. i didn’t have enough shampoo for a whole cup like the recipe calls for :/ so i changed mine to 1/3 cup shampoo and 1/3 cup conditioner. i added like 2 1/2 TBSP each of baby oil and lotion and tried it out. it wasnt bad. my legs felt silky and smooth but then again i had just shaved them… lol

now as to the chocolate syrup… for anyone that knows me, they know i love  chocolate; chocolate ice cream, chocolate cupcakes, chocolate yogurt, chocolate candies, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, the list is endless. every morning while most people have a class of coffee to wake up, i have a glass of chocolate milk. and it has to be a certain color too, if its not brown enough its not chocolatey enough either. so as you can imagine i go through chocolate syrup and chocolate powder quite often. so i found this (compliments of http://www.52kitchenadventures.com/2011/03/08/homemade-chocolate-syrup/) :

Homemade Chocolate Syrup

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup organic sugar  [i only have regular sugar]
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together sugar and cocoa powder until most of the lumps are gone.
  2. Add water and salt and cook over medium heat, stirring frequently.
  3. Bring to a boil and cook for a few minutes, until thickened, continuing to stir frequently.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes, then add vanilla extract.
  5. Store in an air tight container in the fridge and enjoy within 2-4 weeks.

i can guarantee you, mine will not last 4 weeks 🙂

In this big box of love I found lots of goodies like a complete scrapbook kit for capturing our baby girls memorable moments. They also sent me refill scrapbook paper, scrapbooks stickers, LOTS of different patterned scrapbooks sheets, cupcake wrappers lol, and a book on nursing. I’m too excited for words.

Q & A

since ive been pregnant ive been asked a lot of questions and i thought i’d share some of the q & a’s for ya

Q: do you have any weird cravings?

A:weird cravings? not really i mostly eat the same stuff i ate from before i was pregnant i just now want it REALLY BAD. mostly i’ve noticed i have been into cheeseburgers, chocolate shakes and chocolate milk, pasta [especially with alfredo sauce], the purple bag of skittles, sour gummy worms, pringles, mint chocolate chip blue bell ice cream [and we just tried mint cookies & cream and its also amazing].

Q:what does it feel like to have something move inside you?

A: crazy. like there’s something that is ALIVE. INSIDE. ME. i love it though, the thought of life moving inside you, there’s nothing that can compare. sometimes she moves really low in my uterus and it makes things uncomfortable but i love feeling her move so trust me im not complaining. i love putting my hands on my belly and feeling where her little body is poking out.

Q: Did you get bad morning sickness?

A: Oh. My. ___. YES. it was horrible. i was nausea all day everyday and didn’t want to eat anything, like even the stuff i liked two days before i didn’t want to eat anymore. raw eggs and chicken made me want to throw up, and so did the smell of the kitchen [see my DIY room freshener post lol] also sometimes i would smell people’s food and that made me want to throw up, and so did the smell of cooked fish. brushing my tongue made me throw up and sometimes i think i just threw up just because. i tried crackers but those got old really quick, ginger ale was cool but it wasn’t that healthy to just drink ginger ale for breakfast, lunch and dinner. come to think of it i don’t really remember what i did eat for breakfast lunch or dinner during the first trimester. i do however remember seeing dwight smile so big the first time i ate pizza. it’s like i made his year because i finally was eating something lol

Q: Did your belly button change?

A: i’ve always had an innie. a couple of weeks ago i started to notice that it seemed wider, like i could see in it better than i ever had which also means i got to clean it better too lol. but the past few days i’ve noticed that it seemed to get smaller.. is it just like it was before? i couldn’t tell you- i got used to the wider new version. i think more likely its starting to get smaller cause its pushing out.

Q: Are you going to breastfeed?

A: yes! i believe breastfeeding is better for both mommy & baby so i am looking into everything necessary [including nipple shields, nipple cream, and these little nipple cap things for sore nipples. and of course breast pumps] i’ve located the mothering room at my job and have heard of a tea and pill that can be taken to help with women that aren’t producing enough milk. do i know that those things work? nope but it doesn’t hurt to try if i need the extra boost. also i hear breastfeeding burns a lot of calories so it helps with losing the babyweight 🙂

Q: How are you going to deliver?

A: i have no idea. honestly the thought of a human head coming out of my vagina scares me just a little. i mean i wince putting a tampon up there but i would prefer to do things the natural way unless it is deemed absolutely necessary to do a cesarean. my doctor said it’s something we’ll discuss when we get closer to the due date. which in case you were wondering is in 3 1/2 months 🙂

Q: When’s the baby shower?

A: another good question. its looking like i will  be having two, one here cause my friends want to do one and one back home. the here one will most likely be mid-April, so its before graduation and finals but also before everyone goes their separate ways for the summer. the one back home  will be mid-May after my graduation but before i start working full time.

and for those lovely folks that can’t make either but still want to get something we have registries with either of our names at Target, Walmart and Babies R Us  and some of the items have a ship-to-store option.

Q: Are you scared or nervous or excited?

A: umm all of the above mostly :). its not really something you can prepare for at all so its all new and at times overwhelming. there’s so much to think about it and try to get ready for but im excited more than anything else. everyday is a day closer to meeting our little beautiful  baby 🙂

22 weeks

i posted on time this week. yay me. i am officially 22 weeks or 5 1/2 months. woo hooo. i think ive also been nesting lol, ive had the urge to clean and purge and occasionally bake/cook extravagant things.

baby app says: that she is starting to look like a mini newborn now. her lips, eyelids and eyebrows are becoming more distinct and tiny tooth buds are developing in her gums. her eyes have formed but the irises still lack color and she is roughly 11 inches and almost a pound, i personally think she’s bigger. if we could see her now we’d see the fine hair that covers her body and deep wrinkles which will be filled in before she’s born by fat. in her belly her pancreas is forming 🙂

How Far Along? 22 weeks

how big is baby: approx 11 inches, almost a lb and they say shes the length of a spaghetti squash

Symptoms: some fatigue, hunger,back pain, growing pains, leg pains during the night, forgetfulness. {same as ive had really}

Total Weight Gain/Loss: i’ve decided im going to just put my weight up lol. its so much easier to keep track that way. so i went to the doctor yesterday and he told me im 146.6.

the last time i was there (maybe 3 weeks ago i was 141) since i dont remember- we’re going to say my pre pregnancy weight was between 135-140 but i lost weight in the first trimester…

maternity clothes? yes i now own two pairs of maternity pants !

Sleep: i don’t sleep in like i used to. and i wake up in the middle of the night to turn or try and adjust my position.

stretch marks? nothing new or different

Food Cravings: pringles – the original kind, the purple bag of skittles and sour gummy worms.

Best Moment This Week: my weekend

Movement: yes. lol the doctor was listening for her heartbeat on my right side and after talking to me for a second he had to look for her heartbeat on my left side like she did a little flip in that short time!

Labor Signs: no

Belly Button In Or Out? innie like always but ive been noticing for the past couple of weeks that i can see more of my belly button than ive ever been able to see. i guess its starting to pop out

out of commission

so i’ve been a little quiet on the blog. sorry about that things have been a little crazy for me so that’s why i’ve been out of commission. my 21 weeks post was supposed to go up on tuesday lol and i think i posted it friday night..

last week:  i got sick last week and have been dealing with trying to feel better [ afrin works miracles if you cant breathe by the way].  i had two tests that i needed to get ready for and then the charger for my laptop battery died. the tests are out of the way thankfully, im feeling mostly better and luckily my job is well equipped to fix my broken power adapter cord. sooo im back 🙂

also had my doctors appt today. just a check up really. i’ve gained about 5 lbs since my last appt which was 3 weeks ago and my urine and blood pressure looked fine. he measured my belly and he said im right on track for where i should be and he listened to her heart beat which was good as well, 146 if you were wondering 🙂 (it brings one of the biggest smiles every time i get to hear it. ) other than that he didn’t have much to say except see you in 3 weeks and that i can take zyrtec/claritin for the congestion and sinus pressure.
