recipe tests and shower prep

so much to do and it seems like not enough time or energy to get everything done. quick check of the calendar means that my first baby shower is up in 2 weeks !! venue and time is set and shower invitations went out a couple of days ago. supppeeerrr late but they are out and i apologized for the short notice. if me sending them out so late means that less people can come, that also means less food we have to make… could be a win? ehh those that can’t make it will get to see me later anyway lol

originally, we had planned for the colors to be yellow and pink and we had some ideas for table decor and stuff but i went to party city and found this cute room decorating kit which probably works out to be less $ than i was going to spend on making all the other stuff i had planned. found solid color plates and napkins to match :

got some other ideas for decorating the room from pinterest that i will work on later. its going to be an afternoon party so i wanted to have snack type foods that people can eat so we’ve got a couple ideas on deck including mac n cheese cups and choc covered pretzels and cupcakes and other bite size type foods.

who doesn’t love brownies though? found a brownie recipe from scratch that i decided to try out today to see if i like it. i already had everything in my kitchen, which is the kind of recipe that i love.

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup flour

1/3 cup cocoa

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp baking powder

2 eggs

1/2 cup vegetable oil

1 tsp vanilla

lots of choc chips ( i pour them in until im content)

basically mix everything together and bake for 20-25 mins at 350. i have a favorite box brand of brownies that me & d alwayyysss make. the tops of my brownies didn’t cook exactly like my fav brand but my homemade brownies are still good. especially with the baked in choc chips ๐Ÿ™‚ these could make their way into the baby shower food menu.

another thing i wanted to try out for the shower were these cute life saver pacifier favor things. seen them on the web in a couple of places. its basically two perpendicular life saver stuck together with a jelly bean on top which looks like a pacifier. cute.

Lifesaver mints

Jelly beans

since easter is tomorrow i found some colored life savers which i thought might tie nicely in with my color scheme. ive seen a version of this DIY which involved sequin pins and ribbon to hold everything together butttt i didn’t want any one to accidently eat the pins and it seemed a little more labor intensive. i unpackaged all the non-broken life savers and made some frosting.

[ this part was the tricky step, my frosting was closer to liquid than fluffy fun and made things messy when i tried to use it as my glue, maybe i should have whipped it together more ?]

part 1. lie down half of the life savers on a tray. pipe some frosting on this one. take another life saver and put it standing up in the frosting. let this sit for a couple hours to get hard.

part 2. [im not at this step yet] but essentially its easiest if you fill a pan with sugar or rice or something to hold the pacifiers straight with. pipe some frosting on the other side of the “pacifier” and stick a jelly bean on it. let it sit for a couple hours. pacifiers done, enjoy!

You certainly have been busy. So happy to see that you are feeling better. the frosting would have to be fairly stiff. You could have added icing sugar to make it stiffer. Do you need any more finger food ideas?
    Love you.
