1 month later… we’re MARRIED!

I don’t know how it happened, the time just passed so quickly. At first we were getting matching tattoos, and then he was proposing and then I thought I was planning a longish engagement period but all of a sudden now we’ve been married for a whole month!

I thought I would share my stress with you guys about with my wedding planning woes, and celebrate the little milestones, like choosing my dress, and celebrating at the bridal shower, but nope I was too busy enveloped in the moments to capture them in words for you.

I CAN tell you that the wedding was just magical. It was really everything I could have hoped for and more, all the details came together just perfectly. Everyone kept saying it was the best wedding they’ve gone to, which is quite a compliment that I didn’t even expect; I just wanted the people I love to be there with us as we took the next step in our relationship and became Mr. and Mrs. That’s what happened, and it was made even better because we were able to spend the weekend with our family and friends (let’s be honest they are family too).

It was in Ocho Rios, Jamaica and we had about 50 people stay at the all-inclusive resort with us. It was so amazing to walk around the resort and see the cute faces of people we knew. At breakfast (really any meal) we keep adding chairs to our table every time we saw a familiar face, which was so nice, like a mini party every time we got hungry. We went kayaking, banana boating, and played games with the bartenders at the swim up bar. Some people took excursions and went off the resort, we also laid by the beach, went on water slides at the mini waterpark and really had so much fun that we forgot to take pics of it all.

Wait, I’m not even talking about our wedding. Gahhhh it was beautiful. The weather was perfect, the guests were beautiful and the food was delicious. My dress was gorgeous and I still get comments about it, my husband looked like a GQ model and I wouldn’t change anything about my day (except that my aunt fell after she missed a step walking to the mic to make a speech- no worries nothing broke!)

But yeah, still here in wedded bliss, loving my husband, reminiscing on our trip, and planning the next family destination vacation.

Honest Opinions Needed

So I need a bit of help, like some suggestions or opinions, whatever you’ve got.

A few years ago, I started a baking business, as you may know. It makes me heart so happy to bake beautiful delicious things, and put smiles on people’s faces and see them stuff their faces with my gourmet cupcakes, and beautiful cookies.

When I first started my biz, I needed a name, every business has one, its their identity, how people remember them, how they refer you to other new potential clients. I came up with Bee’s Baked Yummies. I’m a sucker for alliteration.

I wasn’t completely sold but it was mine and I grew to love it for that reason.

In the few years that have passed, I have been completely ignorant to the way to be an entrepreneur in this social media age. I had that “if you build it, they will come” type of mentality. Yeah, bull$#it. That is so not true. If you build it, they don’t know it’s there, so you gotta do work. You gotta put elbow grease in it, and understand the system and learn how to get out there to your customers.

I was ignorant to how to portray my edible art, and create a cohesive look and feel for my social media pages.

But that was then. I’ve been taking a baking business course that has helped me TREMENDOUSLY, like completely opened my eyes and made me see the light. I will forever be grateful to my course leaders for the knowledge they’ve bestowed on us, and everyday have been trying to make my business better, to be a successful entrepreneur.

In this new era of my business, I’ve been trying to address my branding. My colors and look and feel of my site, and my name.

Bee’s Baked Yummies, what does that make you think of? I originally had a bee in my logo, but it’s long been gone, and sometimes I feel as if the name doesn’t quite roll off the tongue.

I’ve been thinking about “Stargazer Sweets.”

How do you feel about that?

A few people were quite against it, which honestly surprised me. I thought it sounds so much smoother, I have the chance to reinvent myself, why are they so adamant I don’t change my name?

I think because of familiarity, we as people like what we know. It’s is familiar, it is comfortable. “Change can be scary, because it’s different and new.” They feel that “Bee” is me, and they picture that when they hear my old name.

But actually I am also the “stargazer” from “stargazer sweets.”

I am probably the biggest nerd you didn’t know that you knew. I loveee sci-fi/fantasy books, I adore Star Wars movies, and science and space and stars and magic and the list goes on.

I remember as a child, I begged my parents to get me a telescope, I had them wake me up at 3 am so we could watch the meteor showers at night, and look at the craters on the moon. I actually created a character on the inside of my backpack in the 7th grade, she was this dazzling brave heroine, “The Starry Knight.” So you see, I’m not losing myself from my business identity, I’m just polishing it off and showing you a new side of me.

What do you think of my potential change from Bee’s Baked Yummies to stargazer sweets?

Spring is here!

Happy first day of spring y’all!

Ok I’m a teensy bit late, the first day of spring was actually yesterday, but I’m back from my hiatus!

And I’m so excited for spring!

I mean the weather is pretty great all year round here, (perks of living where others vacation) but the time change makes my evenings more enjoyable and the weather means mini and I will be visiting the neighborhood playground a lot more often. Actually after I picked her up last night, still sweaty from climbing the stair master at the gym, she asked me if we could go and I obliged.

There were a lot of other kids enjoying the playground and the beautiful breeze, had me thinking about bringing some spring into our home…

I want to do a little house refresh for the season change, bring some “outside in” and brighten up the house and outdoor spaces.

Here’s some of my inspiration for some potential DIYs, tell me what you think or if you have any other  ideas! Are you doing anything to refresh your home this spring?

Let’s start with the front of the house. I need a welcoming wreath; I  had a fall one, a Christmas one and now the wreath hook is looking lonely so I need one for spring.

I really like these two wreaths because they mix textures and colors. I love the look of the rustic branches with the different flowers and leaf types.

I also want to put one of those door decals that says hello or welcome, in a pretty cursive.

How cute is this yellow door with the decal?!:

Our porch could use some kind of a table or chair too. It’s a small space, but that doesn’t mean it needs to be bare and boring, which it is right now. Maybe a rustic rocking chair next to a planter of flowers (bonus points for fresh herbs!) and a lantern to finish it off?

Something like this:

D could sit out here in the evenings and have a glass of cognac and a cigar like he likes 🙂

This is cute too, but I would need a nice outdoor cushion to make the chair comfortable to relax on.

Inside I want to incorporate more green and glass; I think by making some terrariums. I love the little glass worlds of moss, rocks, pebbles and fun miniature accents.

I have an empty jar shaped just like this one waiting to be useful actually.

I’ve been meaning to dress up the entryway area by changing up the light fixture and probably updating to smart bulbs (Phillips hue anyone?). I’m kind of obsessed with this pendant light I found on arhaus:

Love the Moroccan vibe and shape of this!!!
And this one I’ve had my eye on for the dining area from westelm.

It comes in silver too, but I think the dark accent will look nice with the wood floors and dark bar furniture in the space.

Actually I was looking on arhaus site, under the living room section, after i found the pendant light and I think we could use a couch upgrade.

This neutral color, some bright yellow pillows, a cozy beige throw and I think I’d be ready to curl up with my latest unread book. After I scotch guard it of course 😀

Screen Shot 2017-03-22 at 10.22.28 PM

Maybe a new media console too? Life of living with a toddler means I can never have too much storage, our current one gets the job done but it isn’t exceeding my expectations. I want something with doors so I can put all the boardgames, puzzles and cookbooks into.

Let’s not forget the backyard; it needs some loving too.

I donated our patio furniture because it couldn’t fit our space when D wasn’t home a few months back and haven’t replaced it with anything yet. He was not so happy to hear that! But the furniture was too large for the size lanai we have, he couldn’t argue with me about that fact.

I’m thinking a cute wicker bistro set so mini and I can sip lemonade while D grills summer veggies and chicken kabobs for us and friends 🙂

But I also want a fun sitting piece like maybe this round swivel from arhaus

Or this fun lounger with a shade from pier1

Also definitely want to get a smart thermostat. With the warmer weather I would love to save some money on the electric bill by having a smart thermostat to help regulate a comfortable temp for when we’re home and when we aren’t. Since we moved in last year, I had my heart set on the Nest. It’s sleek, has an easy to use interface and pays for itself not too long after buying it.

But at a friends house recently I saw they had the ecobee and it piqued my interest, so I’ll do some research on both.

Are you doing anything new for spring ?

Weekend in Review- House Warming

This weekend was fun!

We had some guests come in late Friday so we worked to clean up the house and make sure everything was presentable for the little party we threw on Saturday.

And the occasion for the party was a little house warming. Mainly for our friends who hadn’t seen the place, some because they moved a few hours away. It was nice.

D got on the grill and made some burgers; we had turkey ones, beef ones and black bean ones (for our vegan friends!). He also grilled 10 lbs of wings, 2 ways.

I made a few things myself:)

The cheese ball that I made for baby girls birthday

Cut some fruit up for a colorful healthy option

Made a power green salad with Craisins , red onions, chopped almonds, and orange zest

Cooked 2 platters of a very cheesy Mac n cheese

Who doesn’t love chocolate strawberries?

And almond sugar cookies

Ands 3 tier display of rum cake bites
The festivities were to start around 1:30 but everyone showed up like an hour after that which was great because we were still preparing food.

I also put together a rum punch and we had some Beer and mini water bottles.

We played Jenga, spades, listened to music and chitchatted about lots of stuff. Babygirl got to play with lots of people and I was happy to entertain.

Our last guests stayed until almost midnight!

Later that night me and my friend went out for a little. Our boys had taken off on Friday night so we decided we needed some time to ourselves as well.

And Sunday was a day for rest. We napped and snacked on leftovers in front of the living room tv cuddling under blankets on the couch.

Somehow my phone screen ended up cracking, and now looks like a spiderweb of shattered glass. I tried to get a new one Sunday night but was told after arriving to the T-Mobile store that I would have to wait for my claim to process. I was irritated that it cracked in the first place as I didn’t break it myself and now was looking at paying my deductible to get a new one. Not how I planned the end of my weekend. I tried waiting at Barnes & noble hoping my claim would process before T-Mobile closed for the day, but I was I was out of luck once again. At least I got 2 new books and a Java Chip Frapuccino out of it? I’ll be heading to the store after work today to pick up my new phone (after giving them money I didn’t plan on spending for that 😦 )

Weekend in Review -paint & party

Friday night we had an Olaf pizza party to celebrate mini’s success and by success I mean going on the potty for #2. We’ve been struggling with this one but we promised her to have a party if she went and she did.

She requested Olaf for her party and D got paper Frozen placemats, Frozen plastic cups, and an Olaf balloon. We had dominoes pizza and lemonade and danced around the living room.

Saturday morning we were up early getting ready for a concealed carry class! Found it on groupon for the low.

Mini me went to spend the morning with her little boyfriend 🙄 while we took the class. They were both so excited to know they were going to play together! It was so funny that he was sad Thursday night because she didn’t play with him at daycare so I knew he would be happy to have her come over and play Saturday. I’m glad we have such good friends in them and I can’t wait to show our babies the cute pictures we have of them playing now.

After we all got home I changed to go legs + cardio in the gym. I’m really working on eating right and tracking what I consume and consistently going to the gym. My results should be great !

And after I got back home again i started working on the guest room. We haven’t done much to it other than put a bed and armoire in there. (Also stuffed the closet with cold weather clothes and craft stuff.)

Floors will get changed later but I couldn’t get over the color. Originally I was fine with the dark hunter green shade, planning on having a Harry Potter themed room. I found cute prints to put on the walls and a nice cover for the bed, but after we put the furniture in, the room seemed small with the large furniture and my eyes were always drawn to the less than professional paint job itself.

I updated the color to this pretty neutral and I am sooo happy with it. While waiting for the color to mix in I found a scent paint additive on sale for $2. It’s just an oil that leaves your paint scented for a while!! I got a tropical scent and I’m happy with that as well. I will say that after adding the scent I found it harder to get a good paint consistency but I could have shook it up more too.

Sunday  morning I made eggs with a runny yellow over power greens with crumbled goat cheese for breakfast!

I ran some errands including returning two sets of lampshades that didn’t fit the bill for our master bedroom nightstands and picking some cute kitchen stuff off a wedding registry.

Later mini and I attended the bridal shower with the gifts. It was at her moms house which was beautiful. The driveway was a winding 2 mile journey on a dirt road through some woodsy area that I’m not familiar with. The house itself was a kind of open floor plan 2 story house with a loft, and the kitchen had a large island and lots of counter space. I loved the fact that they built the house themselves.

The groom-to-be’s mom was there and she was so happy to us; the last time she saw me i was about 8 months pregnant with mini on graduation day. (We are friends of the groom since he was my study buddy in college and one of my senior design partners.) She was happy to know that we are still friends, and guess what? Mini is the flower girl in their wedding! I have also roped them soon-to-be newlyweds into teaching their flower girl how to swim as they were both lifeguards (she was actually his boss when they met haha!)

All the girls fell in love with mini and it was such a nice little dinner party/bridal shower. I’m so happy for this upcoming nuptial because you can see how happy they are together !  Mini napped this candid pic of me at the shower.

Master Closet Makeover

lets take a look at the before.

square closet with 3 wire closet racks, one window not pictured, and beige carpet.pretty basic. pretty boring.

coming from our last place this closet was not ready for us.

our last closet was also a walk in with 5 closet rods, and 2 towers of cubbie/drawer sytems. AND we fit a chest of drawers at the back.

that’s right 2 sets of double hang rods, and a single rod that i used for long dresses. Cubbie/drawers that fit socks, workout gear, bathing suits, purses, a basket for flat shoes, more workout gear, undershirts, etc. And with space to fit a whole 6 drawer unit.

[We had to get rid of the chest of drawers because space is different here but we still have a dresser which is in front of our bed.]

this closet has a window which is nice cause it brings in a lot of light but it does take away from some space which could have been used for storage. im not so mad about it though, our last closet was dark and im all for adding natural light.

First up on the list was redoing the carpet. Since we redid the floors in our room, it made sense to do the closet as well.

img_4152

Then I added some paint.

Who says closets should be plain white? -Color is Sherwin Williams Stream.

Next was the assembly of this Shoecase (Ikea Billy Bookcase). I bought 2 extra shelves to add in as well. Thinking about getting a third..

Last closet we didn’t have any good spot for storing shoes, so i fixed that in this one 🙂 Especially because D and I both have a good amount of them.

I moved the shoecase around a little bit til i found the right corner for it.
And then I took this 25″ Custom Closet Organizer and set it up.

(Sneak peek of the rug underneath. Unexpected find from Home Depot,  8’x 10′ with a print, perfect for use underneath the king bed! And it was on saleeeeee.)

so this is the left side progress view.

and the right side, before my dress rod went up

And then it turned into:

we still need to add the shelving to the D’s side and an additional shelf above my dress rod and then it will be complete. mostly.

Weekend in Review- family!

So so much this weekend.

I actually took Thursday off to prep and Monday off to recover !

Thursday started the influx of family to our home where we had 13 people stay in a 3/2.5 abode!

Thankful for air mattresses and extra toilet paper.🙌🏽

We cleaned up the house to make it presentable for our guests and started welcoming them to our new place. They all loved everything we’ve done with it so far 🙂

Thursday night we went out to celebrate D’s best friend’s fiancées birthday.

It’s not often we get out and do adult things so it was nice to be B & D and not just mom & dad for a night.

We went downtown and then finished the night at the pizza place where D and I first met.

His best friend said it was the best pizza he had in his life !!

Friday I did some party food prepping and ran some errands cause I needed something to wear to my princesses birthday. I worked on chocolate “snow” covered oreos and making the cheese ball.

We also put the turkey meatballs in the slow cooker and my mom and aunt got the pasta salad going.

Later that night he big kids went to play laser tag. Talk about a good time! We found a groupon to give us all 6 missions but because we got there so later we ended up losing out on 2. They had a variety of guns to choose from and each mission was a little different. One mission we had to find the traitors on both teams, the last mission was a free for all, every man/woman for themself.

And I won ! I was last woman standing !! I was soooo excited to be able to say I was the champion lol.

Saturday was baby girl’s birthday party. (I’ll talk about that separately)

After the party the family came back to the house and we opened little mama’s gifts.

After opening gifts we played the Jelly Bean Challenge. That was interesting.

And then we had another adult night out and went to a comedy club. We finished off the night by going downtown after the show and eating pizza from our spot.

Sunday the ladies cooked Father’s Day Brunch.

We had leftover cheese ball, turkey bacon, sliced avocado, fruit salad, leftover turkey and cheese sandwich, bagels, scrambled eggs and saltfish.

And of course some sangria to wash the food down with 🙂
