Weekend in Review –

Do you know what I love about the weekend?

The same thing everyone else loves about the weekend; time to yourself to do what you choose.

And I love spending time with our family ❤ (or friends that have become family lol) This past weekend we were able to do just that…

D’s sister was in town so that meant mini got to spend time with her auntie and our newly married friends came into town so they stayed with us as well.

I finished up an order on Friday for decorated cookies and chocolate covered Rice Krispies Treats.

I made a set of each animal, and all the girls got eyelashes and blushing cheeks. I think the zebras turned out to be my favorites.

We did a lot of relaxing at home til D’s sister had to leave Saturday afternoon. And our newlywed friends had a wedding to attend in the area so that meant time for a family nap. We all found some space on the couch and powered up for the rest of the evening.

We got up and got dressed to go to D’s cousins house. We ate tacos and I explained to his cousin’s wife all the things to expect when you’re expecting and all the things you don’t need to buy for a new baby. Have I ever wrote about that here? Hmmm maybe I’ll put together a post with the info that I give out to all my new mommies.

Sunday our friends had to leave and that made us sad, but they are traveling to the Maldives for their honeymoon so I’m so excited for them!

I caught up on some work while mini and D washed the car (and plotted on how to get me outside to splash me) . Then we went to another’s friend’s house for a play date.

We found out that they are expecting a baby girl!! Whatttt! So many good things happening for our friends, I just love it. And then we went out to dinner with them.

Convos with a Toddler – Ep 6

Backstory:  Babygirl  is super thirsty and we’re at the barbershop and they’re out of water at the dispenser.

D gets two gatorades from the gas station and she starts drinking from one.

He tells her maybe I would like some..

Baby girl: Mommy would you like some

Me: Yes baby

Baby girl: Ok daddy has more

😂

Weekend in Review- Wedding Vibes

This weekend baby girl and I were part of one of my best friend’s weddings< 3

I was honored and excited for my girl to marry the love of her life and to have both me and baby girl be involved in their special day.

I had been prepping the wedding Favor thank you’s all last week, which I think turned out super cute:

180 White Chocolate Covered Oreos  decorated in their wedding colors of soft pink and gold.

We drove down to the city where the wedding was to be held Friday and babygirl and I stayed with the bride. All the other bridesmaids were also staying in the hotel so we had a little dance party in the brides room.

I was so excited to see all the girls and spend some time with them too.

Saturday, our day started super early getting dressed and making sure our bride was comfortable and relaxed.

A makeup artist did all of our makeup and I must say she did an amazing job!!! My face felt like perfection and it wasn’t even my big day.

The ceremony was beautiful, the bride was beautiful. We danced and ate and drank and danced and it was a beautiful day for all involved.

Me and my date during cocktail hour:

I’m so excited for my friends as they embark on this new journey together as husband and wife! This girl is literally the sweetest and most kind thoughtful person and I’m so happy for her to get to her happily ever after moment, especially because I know her husband and how much he adores her and takes the time to always do things to make her happy.

I love love.

My FAVORITE Overnight Oats

Have we ever talked about overnight oats before?

I was NEVER a fan of oatmeal. In life. Ever.

The consistency was similar to porridge or something equally as goopy and unappealing in my head.  I wouldn’t even pretend to entertain the idea of eating it. The texture just seemed so weird. Or maybe it’s me, but I wasn’t going to eat the stuff.

Fast forward to now, I’m older, wiser and with a different more refined palette (at least I think) and its weekly  staple in my breakfast routine!

It’s one of those amazing quick breakfasts that I can make at night and customize to my specific tastes. Or it can be my mid afternoon snack; I can add protein powder and boost it’s amazing health properties even more. I can add any extra toppings and create different flavor profiles, I can use different kinds of yogurt and make it creamier or thicker.

Lately I’ve been absolutely obsessed with this method, to the point where I’ll even call it MY FAVORITE OVERNIGHT OAT variation. I have been making this for my breakfast for a good solid 3-4 weeks now. Exactly this way, exactly these ingredients.

I think this is partially because I am obsessed with chocolate and the base for it is a Chocolate yogurt. But i couldn’t help but try the “chocolate mocha” flavor when i saw it. Usually the larger yogurt containers in the store come in 3 boring flavors: vanilla, strawberry and plain.

So what did I use?

Chocolate Mocha Greek gods yogurt

Rolled Oats (uncooked)

chocolate covered espresso bits

I used a 1/4 cup rolled oats to start.

Added in a good handful of chocolate covered espresso bits, the crunch these little babies give when you eat them is so deliciously good!

And then i cover the oats with yogurt. If i find that the mixture is too thick, I add a little almond milk either right after I’ve mixed it or in the morning when I go to eat it.
That’s all! Enjoy !

Weekend in Review – pool time

Didn’t get too much done this weekend except a lot of hanging at home.

Friday I worked legs at the gym and paid the price the rest of the weekend being sore. A good consequence though, to know I’m working my muscles and getting them stronger!

I also redid my business cards. Exciting !!!! And I decided to be fun and different and go nontraditional and do them in a square shape. But now I need a business card holder that will accommodate that…. Do you know of any cute square business card holders??

Maybe I can DIY one. hmmmm, lets work on that.

The rest of our weekend consisted of picking up some craft and baking supplies and spending some time by the pool.

That was an idea that was full of good intentions, but poor planning on my part.. We dressed for the pool when we saw sun out and got there while it was overcast. After dipping a toe in, I realized how cold, how freezing cold, the water was but there was no turning back. Baby girl was already two feet in and all smiles. I tried my very hardest to adjust to the water temp, but it was so cold, and the sun was not out in full force to even warm my face up.

She finally got me to just bare it and dunk myself to my shoulder so we could wade around the shallow end, but i doubt we were in for longer than 30 minutes before she convinced me that she wanted to lay on our towels.

I should have known better, she just wanted the snacks in my bag. And after she helped me polish off our dried Caesar snap peas she was ready for that frigid pool again!

I was not having it! I let her sit her feet in there for a good 3 minutes before I convinced her that lunch and cuddling with mommy would be better.

And that’s what we did for the rest of the day 🙂

Spring is here!

Happy first day of spring y’all!

Ok I’m a teensy bit late, the first day of spring was actually yesterday, but I’m back from my hiatus!

And I’m so excited for spring!

I mean the weather is pretty great all year round here, (perks of living where others vacation) but the time change makes my evenings more enjoyable and the weather means mini and I will be visiting the neighborhood playground a lot more often. Actually after I picked her up last night, still sweaty from climbing the stair master at the gym, she asked me if we could go and I obliged.

There were a lot of other kids enjoying the playground and the beautiful breeze, had me thinking about bringing some spring into our home…

I want to do a little house refresh for the season change, bring some “outside in” and brighten up the house and outdoor spaces.

Here’s some of my inspiration for some potential DIYs, tell me what you think or if you have any other  ideas! Are you doing anything to refresh your home this spring?

Let’s start with the front of the house. I need a welcoming wreath; I  had a fall one, a Christmas one and now the wreath hook is looking lonely so I need one for spring.

I really like these two wreaths because they mix textures and colors. I love the look of the rustic branches with the different flowers and leaf types.

I also want to put one of those door decals that says hello or welcome, in a pretty cursive.

How cute is this yellow door with the decal?!:

Our porch could use some kind of a table or chair too. It’s a small space, but that doesn’t mean it needs to be bare and boring, which it is right now. Maybe a rustic rocking chair next to a planter of flowers (bonus points for fresh herbs!) and a lantern to finish it off?

Something like this:

D could sit out here in the evenings and have a glass of cognac and a cigar like he likes 🙂

This is cute too, but I would need a nice outdoor cushion to make the chair comfortable to relax on.

Inside I want to incorporate more green and glass; I think by making some terrariums. I love the little glass worlds of moss, rocks, pebbles and fun miniature accents.

I have an empty jar shaped just like this one waiting to be useful actually.

I’ve been meaning to dress up the entryway area by changing up the light fixture and probably updating to smart bulbs (Phillips hue anyone?). I’m kind of obsessed with this pendant light I found on arhaus:

Love the Moroccan vibe and shape of this!!!
And this one I’ve had my eye on for the dining area from westelm.

It comes in silver too, but I think the dark accent will look nice with the wood floors and dark bar furniture in the space.

Actually I was looking on arhaus site, under the living room section, after i found the pendant light and I think we could use a couch upgrade.

This neutral color, some bright yellow pillows, a cozy beige throw and I think I’d be ready to curl up with my latest unread book. After I scotch guard it of course 😀

Maybe a new media console too? Life of living with a toddler means I can never have too much storage, our current one gets the job done but it isn’t exceeding my expectations. I want something with doors so I can put all the boardgames, puzzles and cookbooks into.

Let’s not forget the backyard; it needs some loving too.

I donated our patio furniture because it couldn’t fit our space when D wasn’t home a few months back and haven’t replaced it with anything yet. He was not so happy to hear that! But the furniture was too large for the size lanai we have, he couldn’t argue with me about that fact.

I’m thinking a cute wicker bistro set so mini and I can sip lemonade while D grills summer veggies and chicken kabobs for us and friends 🙂

But I also want a fun sitting piece like maybe this round swivel from arhaus

Or this fun lounger with a shade from pier1

Also definitely want to get a smart thermostat. With the warmer weather I would love to save some money on the electric bill by having a smart thermostat to help regulate a comfortable temp for when we’re home and when we aren’t. Since we moved in last year, I had my heart set on the Nest. It’s sleek, has an easy to use interface and pays for itself not too long after buying it.

But at a friends house recently I saw they had the ecobee and it piqued my interest, so I’ll do some research on both.

Are you doing anything new for spring ?

Weekend in Review – I’m Back

*whispers into the dark* are you there? did i lose you? can you hear me? is this thing on?

i took an unexpected break from blogging, and i gave you no warning. for that  I’m sorry. a lot has happened, i forgot to wish you a happy holiday season with your loved ones, i didn’t get to toast to a new year’s with you but I’m back.

i’ve been juggling a lot of things at once, and felt i needed to take a break from some things to help clear my mind. you ever get that feeling too? that you are taking on too much and it’s starting to weigh a little heavy?

anyway, i’ve been hitting the gym pretty regularly the past few weeks, and i’ve recruited a coworker to join in the fun with me. it’s nice to have someone to keep you accountable and to push you when you feel you might want to slack off a bit.

i’ve been working on some things for my baking business; i’ve written up business goals for 2017 and i am proud to say that even though its only January i have already started achieving some of the things i set out to do. also i’m researching and trying to perfect my craft. if you want to check me out on instagram : @beesbakedyummies. ( i love feedback!)

but yeah this weekend. got a good leg day in friday morning with my friend and refueled with a yummy lunch at Panera. I love that even though Panera is quick and clean. Their food is great and they’ve committed to cutting out all the extra unnecessary stuff (damn this is starting to sound like a Panera ad! Ha they aren’t paying me, i just love Panera)

Later I cleaned the house and made dinner. It didn’t come together how i envisioned but everyone had seconds so i can’t complain. Coconut rice, pineapple chicken and a strawberry and spinach salad.

Also I baked a cake to enjoy while we had game night. Scrabble was our game of choice and it was really fun! (Using Monopoly is the go to, but D was not there and we opted for something a little less intense).

Saturday was pretty much a lazy day, mini and I lounged around til my bridesmaid dress appointment. Had to get fitted for a dress I will wear later in the year, glad i went because the dress size i normally wear was NOT the size i had to get and the dress takes 14 weeks to be delivered!

Sunday after the rain cleared, and we bundled up we headed to get some stuff from the craft store. I really just needed Gorilla Glue to fix one of the kitchen drawers, but i found some stuff to do crafty projects with.

Can you guess what I’m working on?

Also today is my grandma’s birthday! I love that little lady! Happy Birthday Dahling !(not her name).

Weekend in Review- Shelves & Science

i needed to pick up an order from a store on the other side of town this weekend. it was an online order so i could have had it shipped for $6 or i could pick it up in store for the free…

i chose the free option because well yeah it was free. and this particular store happens to be next to an IKEA. who doesn’t love IKEA? i don’t know, everyone i know does. so yeah i paid IKEA a visit and picked up some things for the house, including materials for a project I’ve been meaning to do in baby girl’s room.

a book wall!

we’ve been collecting a good number of books for her since she was born and it makes me so happy for her little book collection to be growing at such a young age. i hope she loves to read like her mommy..

but up until this point we haven’t had a good way to store them. in the last house i had a few small bins that i stacked by age/type of book. in the current place, they’ve been collecting dust in a box. yeah we still haven finished unpacking all our boxes; it’s a process, don’t judge me!

in comes the book wall. and it only cost me $18 (+ materials i already had at home)

each shelf is actually a picture ledge from IKEA, $6 each !

all i had to do was gather up my mounting materials and get to work

drill

pencil

anchors

screws

level

and voila. book wall that looks inviting and helps her see some of the titles so she can choose. this doesn’t hold all her books, but I’m happy with it.

Sunday, our friends invited us to go to the Science Center with them.

not going to lie, that place was pretty amazing. they had 4 floors of interactive fun for the family, and our babies were eating it right up. it made my heart swell to see them engaging their minds and playing with all the “toys” .

i’m a big fan of creative play so i know we will be back to the center in the future to spend more time having fun.
