Weekend in Review –

Do you know what I love about the weekend?

The same thing everyone else loves about the weekend; time to yourself to do what you choose.

And I love spending time with our family ‚̧ (or friends that have become family lol) This past weekend we were able to do just that…

D’s sister was in town so that meant mini got to spend time with her auntie and our newly married friends came into town so they stayed with us as well.

I finished up an order on Friday for decorated cookies and chocolate covered Rice Krispies Treats.

I made a set of each animal, and all the girls got eyelashes and blushing cheeks. I think the zebras turned out to be my favorites.

We did a lot of relaxing at home til D’s sister had to leave Saturday afternoon. And our newlywed friends had a wedding to attend in the area so that meant time for a family nap. We all found some space on the couch and powered up for the rest of the evening.

We got up and got dressed to go to D’s cousins house. We ate tacos and I explained to his cousin’s wife all the things to expect when you’re expecting and all the things you don’t need to buy for a new baby. Have I ever wrote about that here? Hmmm maybe I’ll put together a post with the info that I give out to all my new mommies.

Sunday our friends had to leave and that made us sad, but they are traveling to the Maldives for their honeymoon so I’m so excited for them!

I caught up on some work while mini and D washed the car (and plotted on how to get me outside to splash me) . Then we went to another’s friend’s house for a play date.

We found out that they are expecting a baby girl!! Whatttt! So many good things happening for our friends, I just love it. And then we went out to dinner with them.

Weekend in Review – Cookies + 1st Swim Lesson

Saturday, D had a work event so little mama and I made pancakes and welcomed my college friend over for breakfast.

She colored with mini and helped her make us some play doh lunch and we chit chatted about life and what’s new. She moved out west after she graduated and is currently seeking opportunities back on the Eat Coast so I’m crossing my fingers that she will get a position and come back home to me!

Just kidding I want her to find a job wherever will benefit her and make her the happiest. ūüôā

After she left I worked on decorating some cookie sets that I baked. I’ve been playing around in my head with some fun fair food cookie ideas…

The fall reminds me of going to the fair, probably because that’s the only time ¬†with weather good enough for a fair round these parts. – I don’t know about you but this time of year makes me think of walking around seeing all the rides and lights and eating warm fresh funnel cakes. And turkey legs. And big frozen lemonades. And caramel coated and candy apples. And winning big stuffed animals from the¬†trick game stands..

Anyways I am kind of obsessed with how the popcorn and snow cone cookies turned out. Also check out these cute “Oreo and caramel covered apples”

I think I’ll do another set soon with more fair food; like cotton candy, hot dogs, pretzels, funnel cakes. What do you think? What’s your favorite food to eat at a fair?

And the second set I made as a gift for my friend that is getting married this week.

Shhh, don’t tell her yet! Her wedding colors are wine red and gold, and she has no idea I’m making these little treats for her and her hubby to be.

For dinner I was feeling fancy and made Parmesan risotto, grilled asparagus and seared scallops.

The seared scallops were so bomb. I really think I could give up chicken and red meat in favor of a pescatarian diet. But I don’t have the monthly food budget for that quite figured out yet lol.

Later that night I went out for some girl time with my long time friend.

We have known each other since middle school! The 7th grade actually! (I won’t tell you how many years ago that was haha) She moved away for high school but we ran into each other one night a few years ago at a Winery in my city and told me that her family moved here.¬†And now I live one neighborhood away from her ‚̧ it’s walking distance actually (if I don’t mind the humidity outside) And when we can coordinate it properly, we are gym buddies, pushing each other to be better.

Sunday after sleeping in, we had lunch at my friends house, another college buddy. He and his fiancée are getting married in 2 weeks and little mama is going to be a flower girl!

They made healthy chicken tenders, cubed roasted sweet potatoes and homemade bbq sauce. Also apple slices and almond butter, before the chicken was done.

We fitted her outfit for the wedding and they gave her a swim lesson. (They were both lifeguards and worked teaching kids to swim) For the first lesson it went pretty well.

Weekend in Review- Family Visit

my mom’s family came in town and my cousin slept over. baby girl was ecstatic. (!)

mini hasn’t seen her nana in a while so she was so happy when D opened the door and they walked in. and when Chelsea walked in, baby girl immediately recruited her to play barbies and play-doh in her corner.

we made turkey burgers and sweet potato fries for dinner.

saturday morning we made pancakes for breakfast and the girls hit the pool for a little sun. we actually got mini to put her head under the water, but her face after she came up let me know it was not at all what she expected and she had no plans of trying it again anytime soon. [we didn’t get to take her for swimming lessons this summer like i had planned but she has an uncle that used to be a lifeguard who will be marrying his soon to be wife who also used to be a lifeguard. and they have a pool. and I’ve signed them up to teach her.]

after the pool D and I got ready to go to my friend’s baby shower.

we got lost on the way to their house and couldn’t stay very long at the party but i was glad we could be there if even for a short time (oh my gawddd, you should have seen their kitchen. the island was HUMONGOUS. i need it in my life asap.) they catered some amazing food and mama-to-be looked great ! she was all smiles and was taking selfies with her guests and being a great host. not at all how i remember myself at my baby shower- swollen, uncomfortable and hot ! haha.

D had a basketball game which meant we had to leave the party early. and unfortunately they didn’t win. they came up the almost 20 points they were down, but a few bad calls from the ref and a couple of missed shots just didn’t make it work for them this time. it was nice to watch him play though. lately his games have been late and a little far away so¬†he goes by himself since we have a mini with a bedtime.

sunday morning we lounged around for a bit, playing puzzles with baby girl and watching olympic events on tv.

around noon some of the boys went to Dick’s Sporting Goods while the girls got ready to go visit this new grocery store. i saw people mention it on Facebook and it seemed to be a mix of Trader Joe’s and Wholefoods.

OMG. it was better.

first, it was huge inside: a big produce section, dry food section, huge selection of gourmet cheeses, cooked food area, they serve beer and wine while you shop and an amazing section where you can portion your own size of grains, nuts, trail mix and candy.

they had green bell peppers 2 for $1! fresh made almond butter and different types of peanut butter ! delicious cooked baja quinoa! pizza slices made fresh 2 for $4!

new fave grocery store for sure!

i ended up getting a nice amount of stuff including fresh made almond butter, fresh made chocolate peanut butter, pearled farro, green beans, green bell peppers, a poblano pepper, an eggplant, 2 fancy sounding cheeses, cooked baja quinoa, some spices, caprese pizza, a vareity of soap and some other awesome things.

and when we came back home all our guests went back to theirs ūüė¶

i experimented a little with some of the food we bought and made some:

cauliflower rice tabbouleh

roasted egglant (this was kind of a fail) + salad + mushroom risotto

Weekend in Review – Girls Weekend

D left for a basketball tournament on Friday afternoon so we had a girls weekend.

Mini found her way in my bed Friday night so we woke up Saturday morning and watched some Mickey Mouse clubhouse before she begged me to go downstairs. After breakfast we got ready to run some errands.

Of course she wanted to wear a dress and I obliged on the condition that she pick one of the 3 options I presented her- not the more formal coral dress I have planned for an upcoming wedding. (Which she originally took out of her closet and brought to me so she could put on)

I did her hair and even asked her if she wanted me to put a ribbon in it to match her shoes and dress. I’m trying to get a little fancy in the hair do department.

I parted out a little bit on one side and clipped it away and then did  a Dutch braid that started on one side and wrapped to the other. And with the clipped piece I did a small Dutch braid into a regular braid that ended up becoming part of the end of the bigger Dutch braid.
We tried going to old navy to look for some uniform pants for her (yes my princess will start wearing uniform in 1 week!) and I picked up a few things for my own office wardrobe.Did not find the pants i needed at Old Navy (why do they only sell navy & khaki uniform pants??)

After that we had lunch at panera.

Her favorite thing to do is get a grilled cheese and break off bits to dip into my broccoli cheddar soup. Cheese on cheese !
We left the mall to go home and take a nap. Then we washed some dishes, she watched her shows while I finished a book I’ve been reading. I put together some drawers for underneath-the-bed storage and tried to tidy up my closet a bit. I folded some clean clothes and made turkey tacos for dinner and that was pretty much our Saturday.

Sunday started the same as Saturday, breakfast then errands then Panera for lunch. We stopped by Barnes and noble for a bit then back home to take a nap.

I wasn’t feeling the greatest so I tried to rest for the rest of the day. But of course we had to have a tea party.

And then I tried to do a little meal prepping.

Mini tried to help me make some tofu which I’ll be experimenting with in the upcoming week. The only other time I tried to make this was a few years ago and I didn’t cook it long enough to be a texture I could eat as a tofu newbie.

I read a few tips this time about draining and cooking and lightly coating with cornstarch so hopefully I did better this time around.

Weekend in Review- House Warming

This weekend was fun!

We had some guests come in late Friday so we worked to clean up the house and make sure everything was presentable for the little party we threw on Saturday.

And the occasion for the party was a little house warming. Mainly for our friends who hadn’t seen the place, some because they moved a few hours away. It was nice.

D got on the grill and made some burgers; we had turkey ones, beef ones and black bean ones (for our vegan friends!). He also grilled 10 lbs of wings, 2 ways.

I made a few things myself:)

The cheese ball that I made for baby girls birthday

Cut some fruit up for a colorful healthy option

Made a power green salad with Craisins , red onions, chopped almonds, and orange zest

Cooked 2 platters of a very cheesy Mac n cheese

Who doesn’t love chocolate strawberries?

And almond sugar cookies

Ands 3 tier display of rum cake bites
The festivities were to start around 1:30 but everyone showed up like an hour after that which was great because we were still preparing food.

I also put together a rum punch and we had some Beer and mini water bottles.

We played Jenga, spades, listened to music and chitchatted about lots of stuff. Babygirl got to play with lots of people and I was happy to entertain.

Our last guests stayed until almost midnight!

Later that night me and my friend went out for a little. Our boys had taken off on Friday night so we decided we needed some time to ourselves as well.

And Sunday was a day for rest. We napped and snacked on leftovers in front of the living room tv cuddling under blankets on the couch.

Somehow my phone screen ended up cracking, and now looks like a spiderweb of shattered glass. I tried to get a new one Sunday night but was told after arriving to the T-Mobile store that I would have to wait for my claim to process. I was irritated that it cracked in the first place as I didn’t break it myself and now was looking at paying my deductible to get a new one. Not how I planned the end of my weekend. I tried waiting at Barnes & noble hoping my claim would process before T-Mobile closed for the day, but I was I was out of luck once again. At least I got 2 new books and a Java Chip Frapuccino out of it? I’ll be heading to the store after work today to pick up my new phone (after giving them money I didn’t plan on spending for that ūüė¶ )

Weekend in Review -paint & party

Friday night we had an Olaf pizza party to celebrate mini’s success and by success I mean going on the potty for #2. We’ve been struggling with this one but we promised her to have a party if she went and she did.

She requested Olaf for her party and D got paper Frozen placemats, Frozen plastic cups, and an Olaf balloon. We had dominoes pizza and lemonade and danced around the living room.

Saturday morning we were up early getting ready for a concealed carry class! Found it on groupon for the low.

Mini me went to spend the morning with her little boyfriend ūüôĄ while we took the class. They were both so excited to know they were going to play together! It was so funny that he was sad Thursday night because she didn’t play with him at daycare so I knew he would be happy to have her come over and play Saturday. I’m glad we have such good friends in them and I can’t wait to show our babies the cute pictures we have of them playing now.

After we all got home I changed to go legs + cardio in the gym. I’m really working on eating right and tracking what I consume and consistently going to the gym. My results should be great !

And after I got back home again i started working on the guest room. We haven’t done much to it other than put a bed and armoire in there. (Also stuffed the closet with cold weather clothes and craft stuff.)

Floors will get changed later but I couldn’t get over the color. Originally I was fine with the dark hunter green shade, planning on having a Harry Potter themed room. I found cute prints to put on the walls and a nice cover for the bed, but after we put the furniture in, the room seemed small with the large furniture and my eyes were always drawn to the less than professional paint job itself.

I updated the color to this pretty neutral and I am sooo happy with it. While waiting for the color to mix in I found a scent paint additive on sale for $2. It’s just an oil that leaves your paint scented for a while!! I got a tropical scent and I’m happy with that as well. I will say that after adding the scent I found it harder to get a good paint consistency but I could have shook it up more too.

Sunday  morning I made eggs with a runny yellow over power greens with crumbled goat cheese for breakfast!

I ran some errands including returning two sets of lampshades that didn’t fit the bill for our master bedroom nightstands and picking some cute kitchen stuff off a wedding registry.

Later mini and I attended the bridal shower with the gifts. It was at her moms house which was beautiful. The driveway was a winding 2 mile journey on a dirt road through some woodsy area that I’m not familiar with. The house itself was a kind of open floor plan 2 story house with a loft, and the kitchen had a large island and lots of counter space. I loved the fact that they built the house themselves.

The groom-to-be’s mom was there and she was so happy to us; the last time she saw me i was about 8 months pregnant with mini on graduation day. (We are friends of the groom since he was my study buddy in college and one of my senior design partners.) She was happy to know that we are still friends, and guess what? Mini is the flower girl in their wedding! I have also roped them soon-to-be newlyweds into teaching their flower girl how to swim as they were both lifeguards (she was actually his boss when they met haha!)

All the girls fell in love with mini and it was such a nice little dinner party/bridal shower. I’m so happy for this upcoming nuptial because you can see how happy they are together !  Mini napped this candid pic of me at the shower.

Weekend in Review- Cake & Kabobs

i love my 3 day weekends.

we let baby girl stay home on friday and ran some errands.

later we went to a tournament basketball game, baby girl was not excited for pictures.

saturday D had to work an event so little mama and me tried to organize the house a little bit. you know, some sweeping and mopping and shower scrubbing. a little mirror cleaning and sink + counter washing.

later we grilled some food for game night. im still doing the pescatarian thing so i made a black bean burger + some shrimp and green pepper shish kabobs.

i also made this rustic stars & sprinkles cake.

we actually didn’t even play any games it was more like dinner + hang out at our house. which is cool too. i fell asleep on the couch. i might have even snored.

sunday we realized that the time change happened and were sleepyheads. didn’t make it to church.

we went to an open house that could be promising, but didn’t beat out our top house picks. i put it at the bottom of the list anyway; the master bedroom was pretty awesome.

later we went to the championship game of the tournament.

and then monday happened.

Weekend in Review – Red Lobster + House Work

i didn’t feel like cooking on friday so we went out to eat, lol. and being pescatarian means red lobster was right up my alley. and¬†red lobster is having lobster fest!

i had the ultimate feast i think? lobster mac n cheese sitting on top of a lobster tail, mashed potatoes and lobster medallions stuffed with a seafood mix. some roasted green beans and sun dried tomatoes too.

Saturday was leg day at the gym for me and then gardening and house sorting out.

we will be moving from our current residence to another pretty soon so i was trying to go thru and give/throw away stuff. D was trying to get the yard together. i want to move with less things than is our house, cause damn we have a lot of stuff. it’s a possibility we will be downsizing to a 3br house but we have our eyes and hearts set on a 4br.

and then i used a bogo chipotle coupon for dinner. sofritas bowl for the win!

sunday morning we got up and got ready for our early house showing. we were literally getting in the car to leave when we got a text that said it was cancelled for monday (but our appt was for sunday). We got a cancellation email for the second showing and then found out the it was no longer available. bummer.

we drove to the first one anyway cause the text had the wrong date and we didn’t get a cancellation email and the guy wasn’t answering his phone. we didn’t want to miss the opportunity to see the house and let them know we were interested but no luck. we drove by¬†another house on our list. nice neighborhood, but small unfenced yard.

we picked up some more mulch and then went to breakfast.

did you know it takes a ton of mulch to complete any project? we have a small flowerbed out front and one along the backwall of our backyard. we got 12 bags to start figuring it would be enough.

[i told D people at my job complain about how much mulch they end up using. we ended up going back to the store TWICE to finish the job. And its still a pretty thin layer.]

We ended up using THIRTY bags! thankfully we got them on sale. $1 bags !

Also here’s some cookies I made last week:
