Convos with a Toddler- ep 9

Getting ready for splash splash time otherwise known as bathtime, and babygirl spots two large ants.

Her: mommy look two bugs!

Me: where ? Let me see

Her: see there in the shower!

Me: ok *as proceed to wash to them down the drain*

Her: I want to go to a snowy country, I don’t like this country with all these bugs

Me: *laughing* like where? You know snowy countries have bugs too right? Remember Chicago? It snows there but they also have bugs

Her: yeah I like Chicago, let’s go there

First Baby-Free Weekend in almost 5 years

Holy guacamole, I can’t believe we’ve never had a real weekend away from babygirl in almost 5 years!

I’m not saying I’m trying to shirk my parenting responsibilities or anything cause I loveeee my princess, but a girl needs a break every now and then. I also think it’s super important for parents to remember who they were together before they became Mom & Dad.

It’s actually by way of an interesting turn of events that we scored our free weekend, and it happened to fall on my off Friday. JACKPOT.

We slept in Friday morning and I caught up on a few hours of work before heading out to get fresh hair cuts and eat some delicious food at this new healthy eating spot called Fresh Kitchen.

After that, we finally got to see Black Panther.

I felt like we were the last ones to see it, and have been avoiding all articles, comments and discussion about the movie because I didn’t want to be tainted before watching it.

Movie was great.

Saturday we spent most of the day at our marriage class, the real reason we got a kid free few days.

I thought the class was great; we talked about communication, finances, conflict resolution, personality types, parenting styles and natural family planning to name a few. Honestly probably every engaged couple should have to take something like that, get you to think about the bigger picture and are you guys on the same page.

Later we met up for drinks with D’s cousin.

We basically stayed out all of Saturday.

Sunday was for church, house cleaning, at-home movie watching and me practicing my calligraphy.

Though we missed her a lot and felt weird doing things without her, I think in the future we will need to look at planning more kid free weekends so baby girl can spend time with her family, and we can spend time as a couple. It was nice to just get up and go and do whatever we wanted with our staycation. And I know babygirl had a grand time getting spoiled this weekend as well. She didn’t even want to come home. 🙂

Weekend in Review –

Do you know what I love about the weekend?

The same thing everyone else loves about the weekend; time to yourself to do what you choose.

And I love spending time with our family ❤ (or friends that have become family lol) This past weekend we were able to do just that…

D’s sister was in town so that meant mini got to spend time with her auntie and our newly married friends came into town so they stayed with us as well.

I finished up an order on Friday for decorated cookies and chocolate covered Rice Krispies Treats.

I made a set of each animal, and all the girls got eyelashes and blushing cheeks. I think the zebras turned out to be my favorites.

We did a lot of relaxing at home til D’s sister had to leave Saturday afternoon. And our newlywed friends had a wedding to attend in the area so that meant time for a family nap. We all found some space on the couch and powered up for the rest of the evening.

We got up and got dressed to go to D’s cousins house. We ate tacos and I explained to his cousin’s wife all the things to expect when you’re expecting and all the things you don’t need to buy for a new baby. Have I ever wrote about that here? Hmmm maybe I’ll put together a post with the info that I give out to all my new mommies.

Sunday our friends had to leave and that made us sad, but they are traveling to the Maldives for their honeymoon so I’m so excited for them!

I caught up on some work while mini and D washed the car (and plotted on how to get me outside to splash me) . Then we went to another’s friend’s house for a play date.

We found out that they are expecting a baby girl!! Whatttt! So many good things happening for our friends, I just love it. And then we went out to dinner with them.

Spring is here!

Happy first day of spring y’all!

Ok I’m a teensy bit late, the first day of spring was actually yesterday, but I’m back from my hiatus!

And I’m so excited for spring!

I mean the weather is pretty great all year round here, (perks of living where others vacation) but the time change makes my evenings more enjoyable and the weather means mini and I will be visiting the neighborhood playground a lot more often. Actually after I picked her up last night, still sweaty from climbing the stair master at the gym, she asked me if we could go and I obliged.

There were a lot of other kids enjoying the playground and the beautiful breeze, had me thinking about bringing some spring into our home…

I want to do a little house refresh for the season change, bring some “outside in” and brighten up the house and outdoor spaces.

Here’s some of my inspiration for some potential DIYs, tell me what you think or if you have any other  ideas! Are you doing anything to refresh your home this spring?

Let’s start with the front of the house. I need a welcoming wreath; I  had a fall one, a Christmas one and now the wreath hook is looking lonely so I need one for spring.

I really like these two wreaths because they mix textures and colors. I love the look of the rustic branches with the different flowers and leaf types.

I also want to put one of those door decals that says hello or welcome, in a pretty cursive.

How cute is this yellow door with the decal?!:

Our porch could use some kind of a table or chair too. It’s a small space, but that doesn’t mean it needs to be bare and boring, which it is right now. Maybe a rustic rocking chair next to a planter of flowers (bonus points for fresh herbs!) and a lantern to finish it off?

Something like this:

D could sit out here in the evenings and have a glass of cognac and a cigar like he likes 🙂

This is cute too, but I would need a nice outdoor cushion to make the chair comfortable to relax on.

Inside I want to incorporate more green and glass; I think by making some terrariums. I love the little glass worlds of moss, rocks, pebbles and fun miniature accents.

I have an empty jar shaped just like this one waiting to be useful actually.

I’ve been meaning to dress up the entryway area by changing up the light fixture and probably updating to smart bulbs (Phillips hue anyone?). I’m kind of obsessed with this pendant light I found on arhaus:

Love the Moroccan vibe and shape of this!!!
And this one I’ve had my eye on for the dining area from westelm.

It comes in silver too, but I think the dark accent will look nice with the wood floors and dark bar furniture in the space.

Actually I was looking on arhaus site, under the living room section, after i found the pendant light and I think we could use a couch upgrade.

This neutral color, some bright yellow pillows, a cozy beige throw and I think I’d be ready to curl up with my latest unread book. After I scotch guard it of course 😀

Maybe a new media console too? Life of living with a toddler means I can never have too much storage, our current one gets the job done but it isn’t exceeding my expectations. I want something with doors so I can put all the boardgames, puzzles and cookbooks into.

Let’s not forget the backyard; it needs some loving too.

I donated our patio furniture because it couldn’t fit our space when D wasn’t home a few months back and haven’t replaced it with anything yet. He was not so happy to hear that! But the furniture was too large for the size lanai we have, he couldn’t argue with me about that fact.

I’m thinking a cute wicker bistro set so mini and I can sip lemonade while D grills summer veggies and chicken kabobs for us and friends 🙂

But I also want a fun sitting piece like maybe this round swivel from arhaus

Or this fun lounger with a shade from pier1

Also definitely want to get a smart thermostat. With the warmer weather I would love to save some money on the electric bill by having a smart thermostat to help regulate a comfortable temp for when we’re home and when we aren’t. Since we moved in last year, I had my heart set on the Nest. It’s sleek, has an easy to use interface and pays for itself not too long after buying it.

But at a friends house recently I saw they had the ecobee and it piqued my interest, so I’ll do some research on both.

Are you doing anything new for spring ?

Weekend in Review – I’m Back

*whispers into the dark* are you there? did i lose you? can you hear me? is this thing on?

i took an unexpected break from blogging, and i gave you no warning. for that  I’m sorry. a lot has happened, i forgot to wish you a happy holiday season with your loved ones, i didn’t get to toast to a new year’s with you but I’m back.

i’ve been juggling a lot of things at once, and felt i needed to take a break from some things to help clear my mind. you ever get that feeling too? that you are taking on too much and it’s starting to weigh a little heavy?

anyway, i’ve been hitting the gym pretty regularly the past few weeks, and i’ve recruited a coworker to join in the fun with me. it’s nice to have someone to keep you accountable and to push you when you feel you might want to slack off a bit.

i’ve been working on some things for my baking business; i’ve written up business goals for 2017 and i am proud to say that even though its only January i have already started achieving some of the things i set out to do. also i’m researching and trying to perfect my craft. if you want to check me out on instagram : @beesbakedyummies. ( i love feedback!)

but yeah this weekend. got a good leg day in friday morning with my friend and refueled with a yummy lunch at Panera. I love that even though Panera is quick and clean. Their food is great and they’ve committed to cutting out all the extra unnecessary stuff (damn this is starting to sound like a Panera ad! Ha they aren’t paying me, i just love Panera)

Later I cleaned the house and made dinner. It didn’t come together how i envisioned but everyone had seconds so i can’t complain. Coconut rice, pineapple chicken and a strawberry and spinach salad.

Also I baked a cake to enjoy while we had game night. Scrabble was our game of choice and it was really fun! (Using Monopoly is the go to, but D was not there and we opted for something a little less intense).

Saturday was pretty much a lazy day, mini and I lounged around til my bridesmaid dress appointment. Had to get fitted for a dress I will wear later in the year, glad i went because the dress size i normally wear was NOT the size i had to get and the dress takes 14 weeks to be delivered!

Sunday after the rain cleared, and we bundled up we headed to get some stuff from the craft store. I really just needed Gorilla Glue to fix one of the kitchen drawers, but i found some stuff to do crafty projects with.

Can you guess what I’m working on?

Also today is my grandma’s birthday! I love that little lady! Happy Birthday Dahling !(not her name).

Weekend in Review- Thanksgiving

I’ll save you the customary Thanksgiving food posts because everyone does them.

I was thankful to spend time with my family and also for my little brother to show us how to “Juju on the beat.”

and of course thankful for this little bundle of joy and sunshine

Friday, two friends were getting married so I went black friday shopping at a bake store down the street from my mom’s and rushed back home to get ready.

The wedding was supposed to start at 330 and was about 1.5 hours away from her house. Formal attire meant I had to find a gown, and I was pleased when I tried the little sage number on after having ordered it online.

I was so happy to see some of my girls and spend the evening with them as we celebrated the union of two people who seem truly fitting for each other.

look at that beautiful bellyyyyy on her though. She was absolutely slaying in this red dress.

The wedding ended up stretching out til past midnight so my friends encouraged me to stay with them. The long drive back in the dark was not something i was looking forward to so I accepted.

As I was completely unprepared for a sleepover, we stopped at a Walmart by her house and picked up a few things i would need. The few people that were there at 130 am gave us some interesting looks but two different people told us they liked our dresses hahaha. I told her we must look like we went to prom tonight !

The next morning we talked while she made breakfast and I made my way back down south to my moms. They were having a lazy day so the girls snuggled up in Nana’s bed and took a long afternoon nap.

Sunday mini and I headed back to our home. After being gone for a week we needed to do grocery shopping, get a tree, unpack and get situated before the start of the new week.

remind me to tell you my struggle story about this christmas tree i put up.

Weekend in Review – Gender Reveal

Lots of fun happened this weekend including mini and I traveling to my hometown for my cousins gender reveal party.
And lucky me I got to know the gender before everyone because I was hiding it in these cupcakes for them to eat and see !

Cutest theme  for a gender reveal of twinkle twinkle little star …and guess what!

It’s a baby girl !!

Another little princess gets added to our family tree.

So excited for them on this new journey. She’s not due til May so they have some time before their world turns upside down haha.

Also it was dad to be’s birthday this past week so I made him a birthday cake filled with chocolate and peanut butter goodness.

Saturday was a family day.

And after the party mom, mini and I slept good on the couch.

And Sunday was a girls day.

I got to have brunch with these pretty girls that are stuck with me forever 💕 have you heard that quote that says if you’ve maintained a friendship for 7 yrs statistics show it will last a lifetime? Yeah well one of these girls I’ve known since the 6th grade and the other since 9th grade!! And considering my 10 year high school reunion is next year, well yeah that means they are stuck with me!

We had chicken and waffles + bottomless mimosas and salmon deviled eggs to start. And sadly I lost the pictures of all that glorious sounding food!

My actual entree consisted of an egg sandwich with avocado, heirloom tomato slices and srircha aioli and a side of tater tots!

It was great but next time I want the sauce on the side and the egg cooked thru cause yeah it was messy business.

Hope you had a great weekend filled with family and friends too❤️

Weekend in Review – Cookies + Chuck E Cheese

Pretty quiet weekend.

We had ground beef homemade tacos on Friday night and I baked cookies.

Mini knows I bake and we normally have cookies in the jar, but we ran out. And she still asks me every night after she finishes her dinner if she can have one, and the sadness on her little face when I tell her we don’t have cookies breaks my heart. So I whipped up some chocolate and vanilla ones.

Saturday I worked on icing the cookies per their shape. I did a few different themes so I could practice using different decorating techniques, and even tried using my airbrush.

I haven’t really practiced with it in a while, and I can see that I need to do some more work before I claim to be  a pro. My stencils moved while I was airbrushing so that was a fail but at least I am getting the pressure to a point I am comfortable with. (You can see what I’m taking about in the red polka dot bow tie, and the blue stripe tie, a little bleeding underneath the stencil.)

I also did a couple different themes so I could practice some flat lays. I’m still working to get the lighting just right and utilizing my backgrounds to really make a good picture. I’m getting there, right?

Sunday we slept in after having gone out to hibachi for dinner Saturday night (thanks Groupon! +  leftovers for later)

We had a birthday party at Chuck E Cheese and after that it was family nap at home.
