Convos with a Toddler- ep 9

Getting ready for splash splash time otherwise known as bathtime, and babygirl spots two large ants.

Her: mommy look two bugs!

Me: where ? Let me see

Her: see there in the shower!

Me: ok *as proceed to wash to them down the drain*

Her: I want to go to a snowy country, I don’t like this country with all these bugs

Me: *laughing* like where? You know snowy countries have bugs too right? Remember Chicago? It snows there but they also have bugs

Her: yeah I like Chicago, let’s go there

Weekend in Review – Teacher Appreciation Stuff

Life has been a bit of a blur, cookie orders, work stress and wedding planning have had me super caught up. I’ve even been missing from the gym, tsk tsk. I have a wedding I need to look amazing for!

I started off last weekend pretty well though; on the couch watching Star Wars movies all day. Yep nerd alert, I’m obsessed. And May 4 is Star Wars Day and TBS treated your girl with her fav movies all day long.

Actually I stepped out for a minute to deliver Teacher’s Appreciation cookies to some customers. I even put on my fancy new chef coat. I felt super legit wearing it, and now need to task someone with embroidering my name on that bad boy. Or my logo. Or maybe just my name, since I’m still undecided about rebranding.

I waited at Starbucks in between and treated myself to a Triple Mocha Frappe, wowwmagawd that thing was soooo good. I know it probably had mad calories in it, but man it was worth it.

For the teachers in my life, I spent the weekend getting a little crafty to thank them. Work station was looking like a tornado went off, but when I’m in creative mode that doesn’t always align with clean mode. It’s the only downside to the creative fun; the whirlwind of stuff after.

Check out these super cute mini cookies I made!

Sunday mini and I made a point to go have lunch together, (like she had a choice). Can you guess which one was mine? Also I got the side salad to make it seem healthy, but the dressing was just not doing it for me. I ate as much of it as i could (half) and disposed of the rest unhappily. I hate wasting food like that, but the dressing was such a buzzkill and was irking my tastebuds. I did get lots of healthy veggies on my pizza though! And I only ate half for lunch, I saved the rest for dinner.

Weekend in Review- soccer & nibs

Weekend started with some Saturday soccer, our new normal.

Babygirl did sooo good. As a thoughtful loving little person, she has struggled a little bit with the aggressiveness that soccer requires. She sees the kids she plays with, as teammates and friends. That’s a great thing! I love that she understands teamwork and sharing, but when it comes down to playing against each other we needed her to just get out there and fight for the ball.

And this Saturday she did! She jumped in the thick of it all, and kicked the ball out and really showed the progress in her ball handling skills. I was super impressed! And she was happy to receive all the praise I was giving.

I made sure to get some arts and crafts time with her in so we could do an activity together.

She’s been obsessed with painting lately because she has been gifted lots of art supplies, so we painted this bird house.

Also at Hobby Lobby , i was able to pick up some ink and bibs… because I’m taking calligraphy up.

What’s that? I’m crazy you say? When do you even have the time to play with calligraphy pens???

Yes I know. But hear me out, I love doodling and writing. I’ve got pens and markers and brushes galore. I love the feel of pen on paper and making the words attractive to look at. And I can’t just have baking as a hobby, because let’s be honest I can’t eat all my kitchen creations. Especially when my wedding is on the horizon. So in an effort to ease my restless soul/hands I’ve decided to delve into the world of artistic lettering.

How cool would it be to do fancy wedding envelopes for people? Or do those gorgeous wedding signs that are becoming so popular? I know that’s super forward thinking of me, to already be crafting another business venture but clearly when I do something I just jump all the way in.

I started an Instagram for it in case you wanted to check out my newest non edible art.

Weekend in Review – Lazy Days

This weekend I had an off Friday

Got some gym time in and let me tell you the secret to cardio: is to do it with a friend. So much easier to barrel thru 30 minutes on the treadmill when someone you know is suffering with you and you catch up on “the tea” in between taking breaths and sipping water.

D and I also took a random trip out to some new construction homes to window-shop for houses that we can’t quite afford. We saw a beautiful 5 bedroom house that had this amazing loft space, I could imagine putting a projector in there and having a snack wall and popcorn maker. It had 2 masters and an amazing pantry and kitchen, the only downside was the laundry room was downstairs. I don’t know how I’ve lucked up to have always had my laundry be on the same floor as my bedroom, and I don’t have plans in the future to change that.

Saturday we took a drive to a car show. It wasn’t very big, but the weather was gorgeous and mini liked checking out all the old cars. Some allowed us to sit in there and snap a pic, and it was just nice to get out of the house and do something different. Now that she’s getting older I love that we can do fun random outings with her.

Sunday was a home day. We lounged on the couch, painted our toes, played Jenga, and I worked on some baking orders for the week.

Hope you all have a lovely week!

Convos with a Toddler ep 7

It was bedtime, babygirl had her bath time and was dressed and ready for bed.

I read her the very hungry caterpillar.

We said night time prayers.

She leaned in close and said she wanted to tell me a secret.

“When are you and daddy going to marry?” And she pulled back covered her mouth with her hands and giggled.

It melted me heart how cute she is.

Do you have a hobby?

As a mom, I find that much of my time (outside of work) is spent wiping stuff; wiping noses, wiping counters, wiping floors, wiping butts.

There’s a lot of cleaning as part of a momma’s daily tasks, but honestly, it’s not my favorite thing to do. Surprise right? The thing I do the most in my time, is not the thing I love to do. (Don’t get me wrong I do keep my house clean I just don’t LOVE breaking my back picking up socks off the floor, scrubbing the shower grout lines, folding loads and loads of laundry and things of that nature 🙂 )

To be really honest, I feel like I don’t love my job some days too. The stress of it, the time it takes away from being with family, the feeling that they don’t place value on employees, etc. it just doesn’t give me the warm fuzzies all the time.

All of that being said, I think it’s important for a person’s sanity and wellbeing to take a little time out of their day to do something they love.

Everyday I think you should do something you love, even if it’s just 15 mins! Take 15 minutes for yourself and do something that will make you happy. Maybe it will help brighten other parts of your life, or just give you the motivation to get thru the stuff you don’t love doing to get to the stuff you do like to do.

So what do I like to do?

Artsy stuff actually. I like to bake (but my waist said I can’t do this all the time!!), make beaded jewelry (after princess has gone to bed), write (obviously cause I have a blog), and I think I’m going to get into some modern calligraphy, maybe throw a little paint in the mix somewhere.

I actually got some books in the mail today that I will be reading. (My reading choices are scattered and I’m not ashamed to admit that I love reading what the bookstores classify as teen fantasy fiction: Harry Potter, Twilight, the Lunar Chronicles series etc 🙂 )
I mean when I find the time of course.

Weekend in Review – Cookies + Chuck E Cheese

Pretty quiet weekend.

We had ground beef homemade tacos on Friday night and I baked cookies.

Mini knows I bake and we normally have cookies in the jar, but we ran out. And she still asks me every night after she finishes her dinner if she can have one, and the sadness on her little face when I tell her we don’t have cookies breaks my heart. So I whipped up some chocolate and vanilla ones.

Saturday I worked on icing the cookies per their shape. I did a few different themes so I could practice using different decorating techniques, and even tried using my airbrush.

I haven’t really practiced with it in a while, and I can see that I need to do some more work before I claim to be  a pro. My stencils moved while I was airbrushing so that was a fail but at least I am getting the pressure to a point I am comfortable with. (You can see what I’m taking about in the red polka dot bow tie, and the blue stripe tie, a little bleeding underneath the stencil.)

I also did a couple different themes so I could practice some flat lays. I’m still working to get the lighting just right and utilizing my backgrounds to really make a good picture. I’m getting there, right?

Sunday we slept in after having gone out to hibachi for dinner Saturday night (thanks Groupon! +  leftovers for later)

We had a birthday party at Chuck E Cheese and after that it was family nap at home.
